I was going to start my year with a forest unit, but I’ve decided to go with bears instead. My first experiment for this unit is all about gummy bears. I know! It won’t teach the kids anything about bears themselves, but it’s fun! It involves food! And it’s all about the science process, right?
The experiment is super simple: Give everyone a gummy bear, a cup and some water. Soak the bears overnight and watch what happens! Of course, it’s important to measure the bears first and make hypotheses (will the bears shrink? grow? stay the same?)
Here are some sheets to get you started:
This contains the directions and some bear clip art for your class hypotheses graph. Click on the image to grab.
